Belgard Driveway & Pavers: The Woodland Hills Owner’s Guide

We install and replace Belgard driveway pavers and paver driveways throughout Woodland Hills, with full driveway installations typically running $7,000 to $18,000 depending on square footage, paver line, and what’s happening underneath the surface. If you have a failing paver driveway, a settlement dip, or cracked and shifting pavers, we can usually diagnose it in one visit and put a written price in front of you before any work starts. Most Woodland Hills homeowners first notice the problem after a rain, when water pools in a low spot, or when a paver rocks underfoot and you realize a whole section has begun to separate.

We’re an independent Woodland Hills contractor, not a Belgard corporate service arm. That matters because we’re not limited to one product line when a repair calls for it, and we can tell you honestly when a paver can be saved, when it needs replacement, and when the real problem is the base underneath, not the paver itself.

Which Belgard Models This Applies To

A remodeled family room with new windows and a window seat

Most of the Belgard paver driveways we work on in Woodland Hills fall into a few broad families. The Dublin Cobble and Mega-Arbel lines are the most common in this area, followed by Lafitt Grana and Cambridge Cobble. Each has different dimensions, different locking mechanisms, and different tolerances for patching in individual pavers. The identification matters because a paver that looks the same from ten feet away can be off by a quarter inch in any direction once you get it on the ground next to the originals.

The Belgard paver itself is a modular unit, usually 60mm or 80mm thick for driveways. The 60mm version is rated for residential driveway traffic; the 80mm handles heavier vehicles and is what we recommend for most Woodland Hills homes where pickup trucks, SUVs, and the occasional RV are part of the picture. OEM Belgard pavers are available through regional distributors, and we can source them directly. Aftermarket equivalents exist, but for driveways we rarely recommend them. The color matching across a driveway is unforgiving, and a slightly off aftermarket paver stands out like a patch in a pair of jeans you’ll own for twenty years.

One compatibility gotcha specific to Southern California: Belgard pavers fade at a different rate in Woodland Hills sun exposure than they do in catalog photos. A five-year-old driveway has already lightened, so a brand-new paver from the same line won’t match what’s on the ground. We order by batch and, where the driveway has aged, we’ll pull salvageable pavers from less visible areas to patch the front, then backfill the less visible spot with new. It’s slower and costs a little more in labor, but it’s the difference between a repair you don’t notice and one you see every time you pull in.

Signs Your Belgard Driveway & Pavers Is Failing

Most paver driveways don’t fail all at once. They send signals, and the sooner you catch them, the cheaper the fix. Here’s what we see most often in Woodland Hills:

  • Settling or a visible dip in one section. This is almost always a base failure, not a paver failure. Water has worked its way into the aggregate underneath, or the original install skimped on compaction. The pavers themselves are usually fine. The base has to be pulled and rebuilt under that section.
  • Pavers rocking or shifting underfoot. When the sand joints wear out, individual pavers lose the friction that keeps them locked in place. A rocking paver is the first sign that the joint sand is gone and water is getting underneath.
  • Cracked or chipped pavers along the driveway edge. Edge restraint failure lets pavers spread outward, and then tires catch the edge and crack them. On Woodland Hills hillside driveways, this is more common than flat lots, because gravity is always pulling against the edge restraint.
  • Sand washing out between pavers after rain. We get real rain in Woodland Hills, not just the occasional sprinkle, and when the joint sand washes out, you’ll see little fans of sand at the low end of the driveway. Leave it too long and the pavers start grinding against each other, chipping their edges.
  • Weeds or grass growing through the joints. That means the sand bed has enough organic material in it to hold moisture and support growth. It’s a sign the driveway needs a full joint sand replacement, not just a weeding.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A remodeled primary suite with built-in wardrobes and a window seat

For a full Belgard paver driveway replacement in Woodland Hills, you’re looking at $7,000 to $18,000 installed. The range is driven by square footage first, then by what we find when we pull the old surface: if the existing base is compacted and stable, we can often reuse it and save the demo and hauling cost of the old aggregate. If it’s decomposed granite mixed with old sand and tree roots, the base gets rebuilt from scratch, and the price moves toward the higher end.

Every quote includes the pavers, delivery, removal of the old surface, base preparation, edge restraint, joint sand, and compaction. We don’t quote a low number and then send a change order once we dig. The price Isaac Pruett puts in writing before the job starts is the price, full stop. If something unexpected is hiding under the surface, we’ll tell you what it costs to address and you decide before we touch it, not after. Our 365-Day Done Right Promise covers the completed driveway for a year from completion: if a paver shifts or the joint sand fails during that window, we come back and fix it at no cost to you.

Paver Driveway Installation: $7,000 – $18,000
Driveway Replacement (all paver types): $5,000 – $14,000
Paver Patio Installation (for comparison): $3,500 – $11,000

DIY or Call Us?

A paver driveway is one of the few parts of a home where a careful homeowner can handle small repairs without specialized equipment, but that’s a narrow window. Replacing one or two cracked pavers, if you have matching spares on hand, is a weekend-level job. Rebuilding a settled section is not. The base under a settled paver area has to be excavated, compacted, and built back in lifts to hold the load of a vehicle. Do it wrong and the same dip comes back within a year, only now you’ve paid for it twice.

The excavation and compaction equipment for a full driveway job runs several hundred pounds. We don’t recommend renting a plate compactor you’ve never used to rebuild a surface your cars park on. If you want to try the small repair yourself, we’ll tell you how to test the base and when to stop. If it’s more than three pavers or any visible dip, call (831) 290-6866 and we’ll come assess it.
