PGT Fence Installation: The Woodland Hills Owner’s Guide
PGT fence installation in Woodland Hills typically runs between $3,500 and $9,000 for a full perimeter replacement, depending on linear footage, gate hardware, and whether we’re matching existing PGT posts or starting fresh. We stock PGT-compatible panels and hardware locally, and most installations are completed within two to three working days once materials are confirmed. Homeowners usually call us after a wind event or years of sun exposure leave panels warped, posts leaning, or gate hinges pulling loose from the frame.
What surprises most people is that PGT fence systems, while known for impact-rated windows and doors, also make fencing built to the same coastal-mountain standard. In Woodland Hills, where we get real heat in summer and occasional Santa Ana wind gusts that hit 50 mph or more, a fence isn’t decorative. It’s holding up to conditions most standard vinyl fencing was never designed for. When a PGT panel fails, it’s worth understanding why before you replace it piece by piece.
Mason Remodeling Co Woodland Hills is an independent service provider. We are not affiliated with PGT, but we install and match their fencing systems regularly.
Which PGT Models This Applies To

PGT’s fencing line falls under their aluminum and vinyl product families, with the most common installs in Woodland Hills being the PGT ClassicView aluminum fence, the PGT Vinyl Privacy series, and the PGT Estate aluminum system with heavier-gauge pickets. Each uses a different post-to-panel connection method, and that’s where we see most mismatched repairs go wrong. A ClassicView panel won’t drop into an Estate post channel, and forcing it will crack the powder coat at the rail.
To identify what you have, check the backside of a bottom rail for a stamped code. PGT stamps a four-digit series number plus a date code on most panels made after 2012. If the stamp has worn off, measure the picket spacing. ClassicView runs 3-7/8 inches between pickets; Estate runs closer to 3-1/4 inches. That two-thirds of an inch tells us the series without guessing.
On the OEM versus aftermarket question: for PGT specifically, we recommend OEM posts and gates because the wall thickness on PGT extrusions is slightly above what most aftermarket suppliers offer, and gates take the most stress at the hinge point. For straight-run panels, a quality aftermarket match from a supplier that stamps to the same gauge is often fine and can save 15 to 20 percent. We’ll tell you which route makes sense for your fence, and we’ll put the price difference in writing before anything gets ordered.

Signs Your PGT Fence Installation Is Failing
- Panels sagging between posts. This usually means the horizontal rail channels have lost their grip on the pickets, which happens when the vinyl or aluminum expands and contracts through too many 90-degree-plus summer days in Woodland Hills. The fix is often a new rail system, not just new pickets.
- Gate drags on the ground or won’t latch. The hinge side is the first failure point on any fence, and PGT gates are no exception. Frequently the post has shifted slightly out of plumb, and simply adjusting the gate won’t hold if the post base wasn’t set deep enough originally.
- White or chalky residue on aluminum rails. That’s the powder coat oxidizing. Once the coating breaks down, the raw aluminum underneath starts to pit. You can’t clean it back to new; the panel needs replacement or refinishing.
- Cracks at post caps or where rails meet posts. On vinyl PGT fencing, UV exposure hardens the material over time. Micro-cracks at connection points are the early warning. Left alone, a cracked rail will snap in the next strong wind.
- Fence leaning as a unit. When multiple posts lean together, it’s rarely the posts themselves. Usually the concrete footings were poured too shallow for the soil movement we get at the edge of the Valley, where clay expands in winter rains and contracts in summer heat.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

For a standard Woodland Hills residential lot, a full PGT fence installation or replacement lands between $3,500 and $9,000. That range covers material and labor, removal and haul-away of the old fence, new posts set in concrete, panels, gate hardware, and cleanup. The biggest cost drivers are linear footage (most homes in the neighborhoods around Warner Center and south Ventura Boulevard run 80 to 160 linear feet), gate size, and whether we’re working with aluminum or vinyl. Aluminum runs slightly higher due to raw material cost.
Every quote from us is a written, line-item price. You’ll see the per-foot panel cost, the post count, concrete volume, gate hardware, and labor separated out. The price on the quote is the price you pay unless you change the scope. Our workmanship on fence installations carries the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if anything isn’t right within a year of the completion date, we come back and make it right at no cost.
One heads-up on Woodland Hills specifically: if your property sits on a slope or your soil has heavy clay, we may recommend deeper post footings than a flat-lot quote would include. That’s a conversation we have on-site during the estimate, and the cost difference is shown in writing before work starts.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check a few things yourself: walk the fence line and mark any visibly leaning posts, note where panels have pulled loose from rails, and test each gate for drag or latch misalignment. That gives us useful information before we arrive for the estimate.
Where DIY goes sideways is post replacement and gate re-hanging. Setting a post in concrete in Woodland Hills soil, at the right depth for our clay expansion cycles, takes experience. Set it too shallow and you’ll have the same lean within two seasons. Gate hinges on PGT systems also carry the full weight of the gate on two welded or bolted points; a gate that drops even a half inch means the geometry is off and simply shimming it hides the problem rather than fixing it.
If you’re at the point of replacing panels or posts, call us at (831) 290-6866. Isaac Pruett will walk the line with you, tell you what’s actually failing and what’s still solid, and put the number on paper. No pressure, no vague estimates.
FAQs

With proper post depth and installation, a PGT aluminum fence should last 20 to 30 years in Woodland Hills, while vinyl runs 15 to 25 years depending on sun exposure. The limiting factors are UV degradation on south-facing vinyl and gate hinge wear on any fence that gets daily use. Call (831) 290-6866 if your fence is showing early wear and you want an honest read on remaining lifespan.
Yes, in most cases we can replace individual panels, posts, or gate hardware rather than redoing the entire fence. The exception is when the original posts were set too shallow and multiple posts are failing in sequence; at that point piecemeal repair costs more over time than a proper reset. We’ll give you the repair price and the replacement price side by side and let you decide.
A standard residential PGT fence installation in Woodland Hills takes two to three working days from post-setting to final gate adjustment, assuming no rain interruption during concrete curing. Larger properties or slope work may extend that by a day or two, and we’ll note that in your written estimate.
We keep the most common PGT post caps, rail brackets, gate hinges, and latch sets on our trucks, and we can source full panels, posts, and gates from our supplier network in one to two weeks. If your panel has a visible date code, send us a photo and we’ll confirm the series match before we quote.
