Atlas Windows & Doors: The Woodland Hills Owner’s Guide

If you’ve got an Atlas window or door with a failed part in Woodland Hills, we stock the most common Atlas-compatible replacements and can usually get an installed repair done for between $400 and $2,500 depending on the part. Most homeowners discover the problem the same way: a patio door that suddenly drags, a casement window crank that spins without moving, or a lock that won’t catch anymore. The good news is that Atlas parts are identifiable and, in most cases, replaceable without swapping the whole unit.

Mason Remodeling Co Woodland Hills is an independent contractor, not an Atlas dealer or affiliate. That matters for one reason: we’re not trying to sell you a new window. We’re trying to fix the one you have, with the right part, at a price we put in writing before we start.

Which Atlas Models This Applies To

Atlas has built windows and doors for California homes for decades, and in Woodland Hills we mostly see their vinyl and aluminum lines from the 1990s through the mid-2010s. The compatibility question comes down to one detail most owners miss: Atlas changed its balance shoe design around 2004 on double-hung windows. If your window has a tilt-latch style sash from before that period, the older shoe won’t accept the newer replacement part. The window will still hang and lock, but it won’t tilt in for cleaning until the correct generation part is installed.

You’ll find the model information on a white or silver sticker, usually on the top edge of the sash or the inside face of the frame channel. Write down the four- or five-digit series number before you call anyone. If the sticker’s gone, measure the visible glass width and height, plus the frame thickness at the lock rail. That gets us close enough to identify it in most cases.

On the parts themselves, we give homeowners a straight choice. OEM Atlas parts cost more and match the original factory tolerances exactly. Quality aftermarket equivalents from suppliers like Strybuc and Truth Hardware often run 15 to 30 percent less and we’ve installed hundreds of them without issue. For moving parts like balances, shoes, and rollers, we lean aftermarket because the material quality is comparable and the parts are readily available. For locks and keepers, we prefer OEM because even 1/16 of an inch in alignment difference can make a lock hang up.

Signs Your Atlas Windows & Doors Is Failing

  • Double-hung window falls shut or won’t stay open. The balance springs inside the side channels have lost tension or snapped. This is the single most common Atlas repair we do in Woodland Hills, and it’s a 30-minute fix with the right replacement balances.
  • Casement or awning crank spins freely but the sash doesn’t move. The gear teeth inside the operator have stripped, usually after years of forcing the handle when the hinge was binding. You’ll need a new operator, and often a hinge adjustment at the same time.
  • Sliding patio door drags or scrapes along the track. The rollers on the bottom have worn flat or the bearings have seized. Woodland Hills dust and dry air speed up this failure, because fine grit works its way into the bearing races faster than in coastal climates.
  • Lock or latch won’t engage, or the door won’t seal fully at the strike plate. Sash sag or frame settling has moved the alignment. Sometimes the fix is a new roller or hinge; sometimes it’s a new keeper with a longer throw. Never just force it with a bigger screw.
  • Window fogs between the panes. The insulated glass unit’s seal has failed. This isn’t a part you can repair; it’s a glass replacement. We measure, order the replacement IGU, and install it once it arrives, usually within two weeks for most Atlas sizes.

DIY or Call Us?

Some things you can safely check on your own. Clean the track on a sliding door, see if the rollers have an adjustment screw at the bottom edge, and confirm whether a double-hung sash comes out of the frame when tilted. That information helps us diagnose faster when you call.

But I’ll be honest about where DIY goes wrong. Balance springs on Atlas double-hungs are under constant tension, and releasing the wrong one can send a metal shoe flying. Casement operators sit inside a channel with moving arms that pinch. And a patio door that’s been dragging has rollers that are likely seized in place; forcing the door off the track tends to bend the frame. If you’ve got any doubt, call us at (831) 290-6866. We’ll get eyes on it.
